This Sacred Space

Over the past couple of weeks I have been able to hang out with and take photos of some of my sweet and dear friends. Last last night/ early this morning I was sitting in front of my computer, with my pup at my side, shedding tears as I was working through editing these photos. Tears of appreciation, gratitude and joy. Not only do I LOVE getting to be with each of these precious spirits as I take their photos, but there is something so magical about sitting in my office and editing each of the images I take. It is like I get to know these girls on a much deeper level.

Like the way Andrea holds baby Alice and the way her hair always falls over her eyes in this beautiful way. Whenever she looks at the camera you can see the beauty and tenderness in her heart. Or the way Blair's sprit was perfectly captured in the session I had with her and her twin sister last week. Her joy is radiant. As I go through the photos I learn the way her lips curl up when she smiles, or study the piercing blue that is in her eyes.. and see the adorable freckles the summer sun puts on her skin. Things that I don't always stop and notice when I am sitting across the table from her. And goodness I laughed hard working through her photos. She's such a goof and I love that about her. And Kim. Her eyes are like something that is out of a storybook. The way a prince would describe his princess. And I can almost hear her laughing as I see photos of her huge smile. As I worked through her photos I was able to learn more about the gentleness, fierceness and wonder her spirit possesses. It is amazing what you can learn from photographs. And then I got to spend time with Rachel. Who is expecting a little miracle in September. After several years of trying to have a baby, her and Byron are overjoyed waiting for their little one. I got to see her in such a tender and sacred place in her life. And as I walked through editing photos of her I was able to notice each freckle on her shoulders, and the clearness of her eyes.. and the small grey hairs she has (which I LOVE).. and her cute dimples when she smiles. Liz. Sweet Liz got married last weekend. Not only was her wedding day PERFECT, but as I go through her photos I can see more clearly how well she loves her family, friends and the sweet animals that are in her life. I love learning more about the way her black hair frames her fair skin, and the way she looks in love. Maybe I am just sentimental, or have too strong feelings about photographs.. but they tell such a beautiful story, and I am so thankful that I get to know people better through my lens and in the quiet of my digital darkroom. It's a sacred time for me as I pray for them and learn about them better.
