Elena Embraces Autism in this Virtual Distance Photoshoot

“ I was not aware that April was autism awareness month, but now I am going to make everyone aware that I was diagnosed with autism. Confetti falls from the ceiling. It took me 23 years to get diagnosed. 23 years of feeling like an alien or an after in a play I did not get the script for. I am in the minority of autistic people who are privileged enough to get diagnosed.

It has been hard to unlearn the rules I created for myself when I was a child, trying to fit in, but it has been so damn worth it..getting to know who I truly am. You won’t catch me dead in and “autism is my superpower“ shirt, but I do like to consider myself a bit of a space alien. My sister/cousin/extraterrestrial @meghanhill.co took these remote photos in my home with my plant, friends and tinfoil hat. I promise, I come in peace.”
