Petra in the Summer Rain

I have been taking photos of this little beauty since she was about 6 months old. I have learned how to photograph with her as my little model. First she was all screams, then she turned into a little one who wouldn't smile or leave her mamma's side.. now, at almost 3 years old, she has turned into a bundle of energy and joy. She rarely sits still or looks into the camera, but it makes it more fun for me to try to take pictures of her being who she is.. which I think is what photography is all about. Her mamma is my dearest friend, so naturally little Petra is my muse. Not only is she precious, but as you can see she is stunningly gorgeous (just like her mom!). I cannot wait to capture her as the years pass, seeing who she turns into is going to be one of the greatest joys in my life.

These photos were taken at my husband's grandparent's lake house on a rainy morning. We read books, laid in the hammock, and danced in the rain. Petra stripped down to her undies and reminded Kami and I what childhood is all about.. dancing, singing and twirling in the summer rain drops- without a care in the world.

webedit1Petra is also learning how to swim! She loved jumping in the lake water.. as long as her head didn't go under:) webedit4webedit11webedit14webedit15webedit25

the precious reaction on her face when we told her she could pay outside in the rain.. and she was accompanied by her favorite companion, Dakota.

I shot all of these photos with my Nikon D700 and put a rain jacket on my camera so it wouldn't get wet!

After walking inside the lake house to put my 85mm on my camera, I came back outside to a humid and muggy porch. The humidity immediately fogged up my lens and caused this photo to have a dreamy and airy look to it. I love how it turned out!
